Judge Mary Tom Cravens Curnutt has presided over one of the highest volume courts in the state of Texas since 2013 — delivering fairness, efficiency, and respect for the law.
Judge Mary Tom Cravens Curnutt is an experienced, trusted and committed jurist who has presided over one of the highest volume courts in the state of Texas since 2013. As Tarrant County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, Judge Curnutt hears an average of 25,000 cases per year in areas such as Truancy, Small Claims, Evictions and Mental Warrants, helping Tarrant County citizens resolve their disputes fairly, efficiently, and economically. By collaborating with agencies and programs in Court, Judge Curnutt has helped thousands of students achieve High School graduation, helped landlords and tenants be made whole by arranging financial and rental assistance totaling over $40 million since 2019, and has saved county resources by using advanced technology, processes, and people to create one of the most efficient Courts in the State of Texas.
Judge Curnutt is a principled, dedicated, fifth generation Arlington resident committed to the long-term success and integrity of her community, and in particular the Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Court -- individually and as a component of Tarrant County, Texas. Those who know Judge Curnutt agree she is uniquely qualified to serve as JP because she is a thankful Christian, devoted wife, mother (and now grandmother), successful businesswoman, and dedicated community volunteer capable of making many tough, smart decisions all day long using her values, common sense, a solid pursuit of justice and liberty, and guidance in truth.
Judge Curnutt credits her parents Tom and Diane Cravens for instilling in their children the value of faith, love, commitment and always working hard to leave things better than you found them. Some life mottos the Cravens Family has lived by are just that. They always work hard by “getting down in the trenches”, lifting others up wherever they go, never burning bridges and have always been “givers versus takers.”
Judge Curnutt is honored to have been frequently recognized by Tarrant County Dispute Resolution, Goodwill Industries, Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Justice Court Training Center for her excellence in service, leadership, case management and dispute resolution. She has taught best practices at Judges School on Truancy/Failure to attend school. Judge Curnutt has been known to say that being an effective Judge is like raising lots of boys. When done right, it takes a lot of love and firm expectations similar to the proverbial “2x4” to get things back on track!
After obtaining her degree from TCU in Business Administration-Management, Judge Curnutt established her career with a software company in Dallas where she quickly worked her way up from the ground floor to sales director, leading a $20 million-a-year sales team, helping to train the sales staff at the company’s first international branch in Dublin, Ireland, and being awarded Employee of the Year out of more than 1,000 employees. Judge Curnutt is an Arlington High Colt and a graduate of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. She has been married to her high school sweetheart since 1988, has 3 grown sons, two perfect daughters in laws and a perfect but crazy grandson born in 2024.
Judge Curnutt currently serves as the Immediate Past Board Chair of Downtown Arlington and is past President and currently on the boards of the Rotary Club of Arlington, Arlington ISD Education Foundation, Women Inspiring Philanthropy and many other organizations and initiatives around town. In their spare time, Judge Curnutt and her husband are honored to lead an apartment church with Mission Arlington since 2020. By being involved personally and professionally at almost every level of the Arlington community her entire life, she understands, relates, communicates, and collaborates with people, institutions, and organizations across a variety of situations.
The JP2 Court handles civil disputes, school attendance matters, eviction proceedings, TXDPS license hearings, and numerous other case types — requiring fairness, efficiency, and strong leadership every day.
